Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 41302 in Watertown spent much of Saturday, Sept. 28, collecting supplies to be donated to the Glacial Lakes Human Society
Armed with a large truck stationed in the parking lot of Labbie’s Sports Bar & Grill on U.S. Highway 212, the scouts waved signs at passing cars, urging them to donate goods to the Humane Society.

When the day was done, the girls had collected 24 bags of dog food, 27 bags of cat food, 23 cleaning supply items, four boxes of cat litter, and five grocery bags filled with miscellaneous items including towels, toys and treats.
They also collected $250 in cash for the Humane Society.
The project was part of the scouts’ requirements for the Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can achieve. The girls plan to continue working on awareness for the Humane Society and will be making videos to support the organization. The Bronze Award requires at least 20 hours of volunteer time.
“I told the girls they should be really proud of their effort,” said Carolina Resende, director of the Glacial Lakes Humane Society. Their donation will keep us in supplies for months.”
She said the Human Society seldom has to purchase supplies because the community is so supportive of their efforts.
“Anytime we get low on something, I just put it out of Facebook, and the community always responds. The support we get is amazing.”
Also on Saturday, the Weyh family of Watertown held a special adoption event at the Human Society in honor of Angie Weyh, who passed away recently. Her family donated $45 for each adoption, thereby reducing the cost for those adopting pets. Seven pets were adopted that day, three dogs and four cats.
The Glacial Lakes Humane Society currently has an abundance of pets for adoption, including 84 cats. and many dogs. The facilities are located at 1305 Sixth Ave. NW.
