Funeral Service for Alvara Colette Enoch Tatanka Śina Win “Buffalo Shawl Woman”, 66 of Sisseton, SD, will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 12:00 at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency village with Traditional Leaders Louie Johnson, Jacob LaBlanc and Sonny LaBlanc. Drum Group will be Buffalo Lake Singers. Pallbearers will be: Rylie Enoch, RaeShawn Enoch, Josh Max, Tim Max, TJ Max, Timothy Torres, Everett Blackthunder, Remey Coney Necklace Jr., Remey Coney Necklace Sr., Quanah Necklace, Elijah Blackthunder, Westley Redday, Corey Bucklin Sr., Gummer DeCoteau, Traci Barse, Dennis DJ Hisgun, Joey Adams, Andy Williams, and Maurice Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Pallesen, Joann Hisgun, Joann & Shelly Hisgun, Audrey German, Terry McKay, Paula & Arvol Looking Horse, Creighton Gonzalez, Rafael Gonzalez, Santos Gonzalez, Luz Marla Gonzalez, Rolette Eastman, her adopted Sundance family: Jolisa Bahr, Diane Desrosiers, Rita Holy Bull, Rosie Shindlebower, Blossom Blackthunder, Audrey German, Nadine German, Debra Crawford, Catherine Thompson, Lois Crawford, Verna Gaikowski, Mindy Crawford, Susan Thompson, Jennie Fleury, Colleen Vigil, Lois Smith, Diane Hart, Dawn Buckanaga, Myrna German, Cindy Pallesen, and All of the Staff at Tekakwitha Living Center. Interment will be in the Max Family Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. All night Wake Services will be held on Sunday, February 2 & Monday, February 3, 2025 at 7:00 P.M. at the SWO Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD, The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton. SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Alvara Colette Enoch was born on February 27, 1958, in Sisseton, South Dakota. Where she spent most of her life. She attended Sisseton Public Schools and Lake Area Tech and received her Associates of Arts in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community College in 1984. She put to use her education working for the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate. She was employed in the tribe’s Maternal Child Health Program. She was an advocate for the betterment of the people. Away from work, Alvara loved visiting with her family. She cherished every moment spent with her son, her grandchildren, and all her nephews and nieces. She was a people person, who always made sure her loved ones had everything they needed. She was caring and carried kind words for others. Her sense of humor was second to none, and her loud laughter will continue on through those she shared this medicine with. Alvara’s hobbies were traditional crafting, sewing, shawl making and beadwork, and in her youth, she enjoyed riding horses and playing guitar. While at the nursing home, she liked to participate in karaoke and bingo. Alvara was also a Sundancer. A fierce supporter of traditional ways and values. She took many hunka relatives. Through these acts of selflessness, compassion, and expression of esteemed identity, Alvara will be remembered by the love she carried for her people. Alvara was an enrolled member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate and a Long Hollow District Member. Alvara journeyed to the spirit world from the Tekakwitha Nursing Home on January 29th, 2025.

Alvara is survived by: her grandchildren, Rylie Enoch and RaeShaun Enoch, aunt Joann & Shelly Hisgun, adopted son Sonny LaBlanc; Sisters, Agnes Louis, Rebecca Louis, Catherine Thompson, Susan Thompson, Jennie Fleury, Blossom Blackthunder, and children, Lucy Enoch Torres, Carrie Enoch and Beth Enoch, brother Tim Max Sr., Cousin: Terry McKay, Nephews and Nieces: T.J. Max and wife Danielle Max and their children Amyah Max, Ashlynne Max, Arie Max, Danika Max, Josh Max and daughter Nora Max, Chrisolette Heminger, Marcia Heminger, Nicole Heminger, Delight Heminger, Vanessa Heminger, Jessica Heminger, Luz Maria Gonzales, Creighton Gonzales, Rafael Gonzales and Santos Gonzales, Teanna Moye, Stephanie Torres, Sarah Torres, her adopted by Sundance family; Sisters: Jolisa Bahr, Diane Desrosiers, Rita Holy Bull, Rose Gaikowski, Catherine Black Thunder, Audrey German, Mindy Crawford, Nadine German, Debra Crawford, Lois Crawford, Verna Francisco, Susan Thompson, Jennie Squirrel Coat, Colleen Vigil, Lois Smith, Diane Hart, Dawn Eagle, Myrna German, Cindy Pallesen, Daughter: Jolisa Bahr; Granddaughter: Cheena Bahr; Niece: Mindy Crawford; Son: Thomas LeBlanc Jr.

 

Alvara is preceded in death by her parents: Horace L. Max Jr and Norma Max (Enoch), Dad Dennis Enoch Sr., Son Robert Enoch, Brother Dennis Enoch Jr., Sister Arlene Walkingbull and Niece Shalon Enoch, Adopted by Sundance family; Sister: Linda Crawford; Exzilda Seaboy, Paternal grandparents, Robert and Norma Enoch; special friend Colleen Brown; Uncle Cody Enoch and aunt Almara Enoch.
