Watertown High School’s basketball teams split a pair of Eastern South Dakota Conference games against the Brandon Valley Lynx on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
The Arrow boys traveled to Brandon and posted a hard-fought 59-52 win over the Lynx. It was Watertown’s fifth win in six games.
Watertown’s girls team, meanwhile, hosted top-ranked and unbeaten Brandon Valley, falling 74-28. The loss dropped the Arrows to 1-4 on the season while Brandon Valley is 5-0.
The boys game was close most of the way, featuring 18 lead changes and nine ties. Brandon Valley had an early six-point lead; Watertown’s biggest lead was eight points late in the game.
The Arrows used a balanced scoring attack to seal the win, with four players reaching double-figures. Carter Buisker notched 14 points, Jack Mack and Jackson McClemans 12 each and Kaden Decker 10.
Mack had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Arrows, but Brandon won the battle of the boards 34-33.
Lincoln McInerney dropped in 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Lynx in each category. McInerney sank four of six three-point field goal attempts.
Up next for the Arrows are the Sioux Falls O’Gorman Knights on Friday, January 9. The boys will play at the Watertown Civic Arena while the girls travel to Sioux Falls. O’Gorman’s boys are 2-2 after beating Brookings on January 6. O’Gorman’s girls also beat Brookings Tuesday night and are 4-1 so far this season.
