Darla’s career began in the accounting field as the head bookkeeper at the Government Microplant in Custer, SD. She continued her career as a bookkeeper in Minneapolis, and later returned to Clark, where she worked at the First National Bank and Larken Potato Company.
On August 14, 1971, Darla married Richard Larson, and they moved to Gettysburg, where Richard was teaching. In 1977, they relocated to Redfield, where Darla worked as a teacher’s aide and cared for children as a babysitter. They moved again in 1984 to Hecla, and in 1987, Darla and Richard settled in Eureka, where Darla worked part-time as the office manager at MDU. In 1995, they moved to Aberdeen and, in 1997, relocated to Highmore for Richard’s work.
In 2010, Darla suffered two strokes, followed by two more in 2012. Despite these challenges, she remained strong and resilient, eventually moving back to Aberdeen. Darla’s courage and strength throughout her life inspired all who knew her.
Darla was a woman of many interests and passions. She loved riding horses, dancing, playing cards, and camping. She enjoyed watching sports, particularly baseball, and golf. She enjoyed playing two-handed pinnacle with Rich, completing numerous word find puzzles (even through the window with Rich throughout COVID), and scratching her lottery tickets Rich brought her daily. Above all, Darla treasured spending time with her family and attending the events of her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her love for her family was evident in everything she did.
Darla is survived by her loving husband, Richard Larson; daughter, Stephanie Raile (Scott Raile) of Eureka; grandchildren, Joshua Raile (Regan Raile of Eureka, and Samantha Wipf (Tyler Wipf) of Aberdeen; and two great-grandchildren, Laikyn and River Raile of Eureka.
