Donald Norgaard, 66, of Brookings
Donald Jay Norgaard, age 66, of Brookings, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025. He was born on March 4, 1959, in Lake Preston, South Dakota, to Ray Norgaard and Eldah Mathiesen-Norgaard. Growing up in Arlington, South Dakota, Don embraced the values of hard work, family, and friendship throughout his life.
In 1981, Don embarked on a journey with Amanda Ceglian, and they were married on October 1, 1983. Together, they welcomed two spirited children; a son, Nicholas, who kept them on their toes, and a daughter, Alicia, whose vibrant personality brought both joy and a few gray hairs to their lives. Don found immense happiness in being a father and was a devoted grandfather to his five-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
An adventurous spirit defined Don’s 48-year career as an over-the-road truck driver, during which he proudly served as an owner-operator for 33 years. His beloved Peterbilt was not just a vehicle; it symbolized his dedication and passion for his profession.
In his leisure time, Don relished spending moments with friends and family, riding his motorcycle & ATV, and enjoying the camaraderie found in Jeff’s garage, where laughter was always abundant. Donald Jay Norgarrd will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amanda; his children, Nicholas (Taylor) Norgaard and Alicia (Ryan) Frank; his grandchildren, Lexi, Tanner, Fiona, Nash, and Liam; his siblings, Darla, Doug (Betty), Diane (Craig), Donna, Daniel (Susan), David (Vicki), and Darwin (Tonya); his mother-in-law, Cindi; sister-in-law, Sara (Troy); brother-in-law, Brandon (Anna); and many nieces and nephews whom he was immensely proud of.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Eldah; his father-in-law, James; his mother-in-law, Carolyn; his brothers-in-law, James, Duane, and Mark; and his nephews, Jody and Tyler.
A memorial service will be held on August 16, 2025 from noon till 3:00 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington, South Dakota. Celebration of life to follow at Lake Poinsett State Park!
Rest in peace, Don. Though your journey has come to an end, your spirit will forever remain with us.
