Autumn isn’t considered tornado weather, but Wednesday was a great day for a tornado drill.
Residents at Edgewood Senior Living Community had just that. Wednesday morning the senior living community held a tornado drill in all three of its Watertown facilities.
The drill tested the ability of the Edgewood staff to safely and efficiently move all of the residents to the designated shelter areas within the buildings. The staff was also evaluated on their accountability systems and checks to make sure no one was left in their room or any other part of the building.
Planning for the drill began weeks ago. Directors from all aspects of Edgewood had been meeting with city and county officials to ensure the policies used to guide staff met the needs of the residents and also aligned with policies and procedures used by responding agencies that may be tasked to assist in the event of a real emergency.
Watertown Fire Rescue attended the drill to observe and give the staff and residents some perspective of what firefighters would do in the event of damage or injuries to residents or staff of the facility.
Following the successful drill, firefighters sat down with the residents for coffee and donuts to answer any questions that the residents may have about the drill or any part of Watertown Fire Rescue.
