In an effort to alleviate traffic on US Highway 212, the Codington County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to consider taking an alternative route from Watertown to Kranzburg for the Fourth of July.
From North Highway 81, turn east onto 26th Avenue Northeast, as if going to the north interstate exits. Continue past the interstate on the same road, which becomes 169th Street for two and a half miles. After the curve, continue south for just under one mile, and then turn east onto 170th Street. Follow this for four and a half miles and then turn south onto Kranzburg Avenue. The twelve-mile route brings you into the northeast corner of Kranzburg.
Once in Kranzburg, revelers will notice concrete barricades erected at the corner of St. Mary’s Street and Dakota Avenue near Jeffrey’s Supper Club and Lounge. In past years, parade-goers have traditionally crowded this intersection, making it difficult for floats and other entries to pass safely. Officials hope to alleviate this congestion with these measures.
