What are you most looking forward to this year? I’m excited to get back to South Dakota schools. I spent around 90% of my own schooling in South Dakota and I missed it dearly. I’m looking forward to getting to know the Henry community and seeing just how far we can go together this year.
What inspired you to teach? I had a really amazing history teacher. (Angie Kulesa, Ipswich, SD) She not only showed me how class could be different when you had a teacher that genuinely cared about their students, but also how much joy that can bring a teacher.

I have taught for five years, so I will be going into my sixth year of teaching this year. I have taught in Sisseton, Deuel, and Watertown School Districts.
What are you most looking forward to this year? I am looking forward to getting to know my students and having a fun year with them learning new things.
What inspired you to teach? I was inspired to teach after working as a paraprofessional and seeing how the teachers affected the lives of their students. In the classroom and outside the room. My favorite moment with students is when the “light bulb” comes on when they are learning something new.
Florence School District

Nathan Russell, Florence High School
Nate Russell
School and Grade or Subject(s): Florence High School, Business
Coaching or Extracurricular Involvement: JH Football Head Coach, eSports Head Coach
Hometown and High School: Garretson, SD; Edgerton Public School District
College and Degrees:
Associate’s and Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management from Mount Marty University
Master’s in Education from University of Sioux Falls
What are you most looking forward to this year? Being that it’s my first year teaching, I’m looking forward to a new challenges that come with a new job. Between teaching a lot of the same kids that I have been coaching in football for the last 2 years, and then having new football players this year, I’m looking forward to another great season of football as well! eSports is a new activity being offered by the SDHSAA, and so starting a brand new program, and being the pilot of the program will also be an exciting opportunity.
What inspired you to teach? Students bring a lot of experience to a classroom. One of the most rewarding things that I have found through coaching, and being a corporate trainer prior, is that revelation / moment of clarity when you teach them something and it clicks. I also have watched a lot of athletes grow and learn, and as a coach, there is nothing more rewarding than when kids show up each day because they love being there and competing.
