Follow our journey: First edition reaches the presses

The first edition of the Watertown Current newspaper came off the presses Oct. 9.

For those following our journey to return local print journalism to Watertown, the first edition of the Watertown Current newspaper was printed in Aberdeen by Midstates Group Oct. 9 and overnighted to Watertown and delivered to the post office in the wee hours of the morning so it could make the day’s runs.

The printing process took the better part of four hours on the Heidelberg Contiweb offset press—which is longer than an 18-wheeler and infintly more complex than a consumer-grade inkjet printer—and required numerous hands to load and prep the press and fold the two sections together.

Now that the newspapers are in Watertown, they will be available to the public starting Friday, Oct. 11 at our office and select retail and public builings around town for free.
