Wow! What a first week.

Recapping up our first week of coverage, we attended and reported on the latest meetings of the Watertown City Council, the Watertown School Board, and the Watertown Regional Library Board. We attended the grand opening of the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena, reported on the new Watertown Curling Club, new flood maps drawn by the Army Corps of Engineers, Sept. 11 memorials, upcoming concerts, Vintiques, the undefeated Kampeska Krushers roller derby team, the Shamrock’s inaugural game, and new teachers from around the region.

Next week, we are planning continuing daily coverage on WHS’s homecoming, the second monthly meeting of the city council, and a public meeting with the Corps of Engineers to discuss their new flood maps.

As we continue to get things up and running, we plan on—among other things—to be an active member of the community as a go-to resource for all area residents to be informed citizens. So what we ask of you is this: if you have any story ideas, tips, or leads, send them to us at news@watertowncurrent.com or by calling us at 605-657-1797. And you don’t just have to use that email address for story tips—feel free to drop us a line about upcoming events, coverage you would like to see, ideas for us as we move forward, or even if you just want to talk about us and the community.

Customer Engagement Specialist Jen Pendley is available from 8-5 p.m. to jot down story ideas and take subscriptions. Our most popular subscription plan has been the “ultimate” package of access to our daily online news coverage and our weekly print edition when it gets started in October. This plan costs $125 a year, which comes out to $2.40 per week. We have other subscription offers starting at $95 a year which consist of online-only or print-only access. There is also a $10 per month subscription plan if that better suits your needs.

The return of local print journalism is here. Hop on board with us; the ride is spectacular.
