Harlin G. Bachmann, age 93, of Watertown

Harlin G. Bachmann, age 93, of Watertown, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Prairie Lakes Hospital.  Funeral liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Father Christopher Hughes will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown starting at 9:30 a.m.

 

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown, and the military Funeral Honors Team of the South Dakota Army National Guard.

Harlin was born on May 6, 1931 in Faith, South Dakota to Theodore and Eileen (Leber) Bachmann. He grew up on a farm in Summit, South Dakota before joining the United States Army in 1950. Harlin served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1953.

On January 12, 1956, Harlin married the love of his life, Beverly Richardt, in Sisseton, South Dakota. The couple recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

Working as a depot agent for the railroad for several years, he, Beverly, and their children lived in many different places across Minnesota and South Dakota before moving to San Jose, California where Harlin worked as an appliance repairman.

In 1975, the family moved to Webster, South Dakota, to be closer to family. Harlin started a new career as a state police dispatcher, where he worked until he retired at the age of 65. After retiring, Harlin and Beverly traveled around the United States and spent many winters in Texas. In 2015, Harlin and Beverly moved to Watertown, South Dakota.

Harlin liked to play cards, golf, hunt, and fish. He loved dancing with his wife.

Harlin is survived by his wife, Beverly; three children: Veronica (Dan) Pantelis, of Lincolnshire, IL; Virginia (Tom) Jensen, of Maple Grove, MN, and Stephen (Sue) Bachmann, of Watertown, SD; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Veronica Bachmann.

Harlin was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Eileen, three sisters and one brother.
