INSTRUCTIONS TO THE VOTERS

VOTING RIGHTS
Any voter who can’t mark a ballot because the voter has a physical disability or can’t read, may ask any person they choose to help them vote.  Any voter may ask for instructions in the proper procedure for voting.  Any voter at the polling place prior to 7:00 p.m. is allowed to cast a ballot.

If your voting rights have been violated, you may call the person in charge of the election at 605-882-6297, the Secretary of State at 888-703-5328, or your State’s Attorney at 605-882-6276.

Any person who is convicted of a felony on or after July 1, 2012, loses the right to vote.  However, any such person may register to vote following the completion of the person’s felony sentence.  Any person who is convicted of a felony on or before June 30, 2012, and who receives a sentence of imprisonment to the adult penitentiary system, including a suspended execution of sentence, loses the right to vote.  Any such person so sentenced may register to vote following completion of the person’s sentence. ELECTION CRIMES
Anyone who makes a false statement when they vote, tries to vote knowing they are not a qualified voter, or tries to vote more than once has committed an election crime.

THE FOLLOWING FACSIMILE OF THE CODINGTON COUNTY OFFICIAL PRIMARY ELECTION BALLOT WILL BE VOTED ON BY ALL QUALIFIED REGISTERED VOTERS IN CODINGTON COUNTY AS FOLLOWS:

REPUBLICAN United States Senate race may be voted on by all Republican registered voters in Codington County.

REPUBLICAN United States Representative race may be voted on by all Republican registered voters in Codington County.

REPUBLICAN Governor race may be voted on by all Republican registered voters in Codington County

REPUBLICAN South Dakota Legislative District 4 House and Senate races may be voted on by Codington County voters registered as Republican in the precincts of Dexter; Eden, Phipps, & Wallace Village.; Fuller & Florence Village.; Germantown/Rauville; Graceland, Henry Twp. & Village; Kampeska/Richland; Kranzburg Twp. & Village; Leola/South Shore Village; and Waverly

REPUBLICAN South Dakota Legislative District 5 Senate race may be voted on by Codington County voters registered as Republican in the City of Watertown precincts, Elmira Township, Lake Township, Pelican Township, and Sheridan Township

REPUBLICAN Precinct Committeeman race, in Ward B Precinct 2, may be voted on by Codington County voters registered as Republican in that precinct.

Voters will receive one ballot with each of the qualifying races based on voter’s current registered political party and current voter registration address.

Codington County does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, or disability in employment or the provision of service.
