The Watertown Regional Airport played host to a United States Coast Guard plane on Wednesday, Jan 15.

Tracy Witte, an office specialist at the airport, said the C-130 stopped in Watertown to drop off passengers, refuel and deice on its way from Grand Forks to Washington, D.C. The Watertown airport was a scheduled stop for Coast Guard plane.

The C-130, known as the Hercules, is used for various purposes by the U.S. Coast Guard, including transporting cargo and passengers. search-and-rescue missions and reconnaissance operations.

The plane is considerably larger than the aircraft that usually travel in and out of Watertown’s airport. The Hercules C-130’s wingspan of 132 feet, 7 inches is more than twice that of the 50-passenger regional jets flown by Denver Air Connection. The C-130 stands nearly 40 feet tall while the DAC jets are about 22 feet.

The Coast Guard plane and the DAC jets, however, are about the same length at 98 feet.
