LaVerne Gustave McPeek (Pete, Mac), 82 of Watertown, SD, passed away Friday, September 6, 2024 in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30am Friday, September 13, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm, Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown with the Watertown Police Department Honor Guard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: retired police officers, card playing buddies, Elks Lodge members, hunting, and fishing buddies.
Active Pallbearers will be: LaVerne’s nephews, Todd & Tracy Schaefer, Dave & Jim Fischer, Brett & Dean Heaton, Michael Riley, & Drew Hauff.
In Lieu of flowers, family asks that memorials be designated to Grace Lutheran Church or Prairie Lakes Healthcare Foundation – Kidney Dialysis.
LaVerne was born on January 11, 1942 in Watertown, SD to Henry & Sylvia (Hogie) McPeek. LaVerne was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1960.
LaVerne was united in marriage to Louise Kay Elmore on April 13, 1965 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. To this union two children were born. The couple lived in Watertown their entire life. Although LaVerne loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, his most treasured times were with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and his precious pups.
LaVerne was passionate about his career in law enforcement, working for the Watertown Police Department for over 30 years with 14 of those years being the Chief of Police.
LaVerne is survived by the love of his life, Louise McPeek, his children Lee (Lisa) McPeek of Watertown, SD, Lisa (Tim) Dahl of Watertown, SD, grandchildren Jordan (Taylor) McPeek of Brighton, CO, Carly (Cole) Mosher of Mankato, MN, Laken Dahl of Sioux Falls, SD, Caitlyn McPeek of Mankato, MN, Brooklen Dahl of Watertown, SD, great-granddaughter Emerson Mosher, his sister-in-law, Alice McPeek, many members of Louise’s family, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sylvia McPeek, his sisters, Marilyn Fischer and Elaine McPeek, his brother LeRoy McPeek, and his brother-in-law Warren Fischer.
