Lonnie Jon Davis, age 70, of Watertown, SD, passed away on December 30, 2024. Lonnie was born on November 21, 1954, to Jim and Chrystal Davis in Castlewood, SD.
He married Pam Stavick on June 7th, 1975, and from their marriage welcomed their children Brandon and Angela.
Throughout his life, Lonnie was a dedicated entrepreneur, known for his work with Davis Excavating and later EZ Stor. Most recently, he was embarking on a new venture, LD’s Boondocks, a testament to his relentless drive and passion for new opportunities. If he had an idea that anyone would doubt, he would challenge, “watch me.”
Lonnie’s love for nature was one of the defining aspects of his life. He had an unyielding appreciation for the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. A skilled fisherman, he participated in many fishing tournaments over the years, creating cherished memories and friendships along the way. He could identify any bird at a glance, but martins and wood ducks held a special place in his heart.
In his younger years, Lonnie pursued his passion for aviation, spending countless hours flying his plane. He and his brother Mike shared many adventures in the skies, embracing the freedom and the joy it brought.
Lonnie also had a lifelong love for Mopar cars, building a small collection that reflected his appreciation for classic craftsmanship. His interest in history and artifacts led him to accumulate unique pieces over the years, each with its own story, sparking connections and conversations with everyone he met. Lonnie also had a deep love for music, often sitting front row at concerts of his favorite artists. Whether it was Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel or Tom Petty, he relished the energy and joy of live performances, making music a cherished part of his life.
Lonnie was a man that had an eye for the finer things in life, as he had very simple tastes, he only liked the best. He stayed updated on the latest news and technology and could often be found sharing stories over a good drink or meal with friends or strangers. To Lonnie, everyone was a friend, and he had a knack for making people feel welcome and appreciated. He loved having a good time.
Above all, Lonnie cherished his family and doted on his grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. He changed as a man when he got the name “Papa”. Whether cheering them on at events, teaching them how to hunt and fish, telling them fish tales, or simply spending time together, he treasured every moment he had with them.
He leaves behind his father, Jim Davis (Barb Cozad) of Castlewood; his son, Brandon (Jennifer) Davis of Watertown; his grandchildren, Cheyanne (Jarod) Weber and their son, Boden of Watertown, Kale Davis of Watertown, Karsyn, Chase, and Houston Bass of Tea; his brothers, Mark Davis of Watertown and Danny Davis of Castlewood; his sister, Carol Person of Sioux Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends made along the way.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Chrystal Davis; his daughter, Angela Davis Bass; his brothers, Michael Davis and Paul Davis; and his sister, Diane Davis Halling.
Make-A-Wish Foundation is an organization near and dear to Lonnie and where he met his soul dog and best friend, Cody. Lonnie’s love for life, his humor, and his ability to bring people together will never be forgotten. He will be remembered for his zest of life, his entrepreneurial spirit, and the warmth he brought to all who knew him. He touched the lives of so many, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
