Born on August 28, 1956, in Mobridge, to Ted A. and Verlene (Berreth) Aman, Lowell grew up with a spirit of service and a knack for fixing anything that crossed his path. After graduating High School, he went on to serve his country in the United States Army.
After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Lowell married the love of his life, Debra (Beck) Aman, on May 27, 1978, at First Baptist Church in Mobridge. A few years later, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Northern State University. Together, they built a life centered on family and community, making their home in Mobridge; Dickinson, N.D.; and Watertown.
Lowell’s career was marked by his dedication to service and hard work, including time with Beck Time Service, Leonard’s Studio, National Park Service and twenty-five years at Menards. However, his family and friends will most remember him by his unofficial titles: “Mr. Fix-It,” “Best Friend,” and, most importantly, “Grandpa.”
An avid outdoorsman and music lover, Lowell found joy in camping, motorcycle riding, playing his guitar and woodworking. While he enjoyed attending concerts and spending quiet time at home, his greatest happiness came from moments shared with family and friends. He was also a proud member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Debra; his four children and their spouses: Derek (Alisha) Aman of New Rochelle, N.Y.; Pierce (Jennifer) Aman of Sioux Falls; Brandy (Eric) Pownell of Duluth, Minn.; and Sean (Katie) Aman of Sioux Falls; two siblings, Owen Aman of Big Horn, Wyo., and Nova Iszler of River Falls, Wis.; as well as his treasured little ones—his beloved grandchildren, Levi Aman, Beck Sedor-Aman, and Violet Pownell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Verlene.
