Marianne Thronson-Hiljus, 78 of Watertown
Marianne Hiljus, 78 passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, in Watertown.
A private family service will be held.
Marianne was born on June 21, 1948, in Watertown. After graduating from Watertown High School in 1966, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she met and then married Darrell Hiljus in 1976. Her love for plants led her to work in numerous flower shops. After 27 years of marriage, Marianne moved back to Watertown following Darrell’s passing in 2003. Deeply devoted to her family, she took great joy in regularly spoiling them with her exceptional homemade cookies.
Marianne is survived by her siblings Marlys (David, deceased) Fie, Judy (Terri, deceased) Nyberg, John (Marilyn, deceased) of Sterling, Colo., Debbie (Keith) Markve, Jeffrey (Kay) Thronson, Michelle (John) Sturdevant of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law Vicki Thronson of Sioux Falls; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews; and her dog, Finn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lenore and Norman Thronson, her brother, James Thronson, her husband, Darrell Hiljus, and her beloved niece, Morgan Markve.
