Lake Kampeska Water Project District
The annual meeting of the Lake Kampeska Water Project District will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 7 p.m., at The Prop, 728 South Lake Drive, Watertown, South Dakota.
The Lake Kampeska Water Project District was formed in 1986 with the election of a seven-member board of directors. As a local agency, it is tasked with protecting the water resources of Lake Kampeska by implementing projects to improve water quality and flood protection. Each board member serves a three-year term, elected on a rotating basis.
Current directors are: Bret Holien, Chairman, Paul I. Hinderaker, Bradley D. Johnson, Mark Messerli, Mark S. Roby, Jeff Ranum and Dan Gabriel. The seats held by Johnson and Ranum are up for election.
Petitions for election to the Lake Kampeska Water Project District board are now available. Anyone who is the owner of record of property on Lake Kampeska and at least 18 years of age is eligible for election to the board.
Petitions to run for election to the board must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters. Qualified voters are registered voters who are a resident of the district.
The notarized petition must be filed with the secretary of Lake Kampeska Water Project District at 25 First Avenue Southwest, Watertown, South Dakota, by Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Petitions are available from the South Dakota Secretary of State, or at 25 First Avenue Southwest, Watertown.
