Salvation Army extends Red Kettle donations

Local Corps at 87% of goal.

“Although the kettles are gone, the need is still there.”

That is Salvation Army Captain Dennis Jolly’s message to Watertown. As of the end of December, the organization is at 87 percent of its goal for its signature annual fundraising event. To make up the difference, the decision was made to extend “Kettle Season” to the end of January.

Jolly explained that while there will not be physical kettles and bell-ringers this month, the public is invited to donate online. Donations can also be made at the Salvation Army office at 621 Fourth St. SE.

Red Kettle Season began in November. In just over two months, the Salvation Army of Watertown had received $196,353 in total from the fundraiser, of which $91,378 came from individual donations in the red kettles. Jolly said this is the first time in his four years in Watertown that the Salvation Army did not make it goal in the normal time-frame, but he is “confident and hopeful” that they will close the gap in January.

Online donations can be made here. Please contact the Salvation Army at 605-886-4030 for more information.
