The Salvation Army of Watertown is in need.

Photos posted recently on social media show bare shelves in the food pantry where cereal, soups, canned fruits and vegetables, and boxed dinners should be.
Captain Dennis Jolly of the Salvation Army said that at low points, such as now, the Food Pantry takes a “double hit.” Not only does the need increase, but both monetary and food donations decrease. Jolly furthered explained that it is unusual to see shelves this empty in spring; donations typically dip in summer.
“We’re seeing a huge increase with our food,” he said.
Jolly urged shoppers to consider purchasing an extra can or box of food when grocery shopping. The Salvation Army can also accept donations of home-canned foods.
Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army office and thrift store at 621 4th Street southeast.
