Santaland moves to larger space at Watertown Mall

Chamber of Commerce is seeking sponsors, volunteers and big ideas for Christmas display.

Santaland, a Watertown holiday tradition from the 1960s to the 1980s, made a successful return last year. This year, Santaland is looking to take another giant leap forward.

After opening in the cramped downtown Commerce Center last holiday season, Santaland is moving to the Watertown Mall.

Chamber President Tim Sheehan told the Watertown Current: “We approached the mall with the idea, and they said, ‘Heck, ya! Let’s do it:’ It will allow us more space to do the things we want to do.”

The new space, the former home of Maurice’s, gives Santaland 5,900 square feet of display space, more than double what was available downtown. This expanded space will allow for an even more magical experience, with new features and larger-than-life displays.

But the Watertown Chamber of Commerce is seeking the public’s help to make their vision come to life.

Chamber officials said Santaland is not just about getting a quick photo with Santa Claus; it’s an immersive experience that will stay with families for years to come. They are asking for sponsors to ensure Santaland remains free to the public and continues to be a cherished part of the Watertown holiday season.

Last year more than 8,000 people attended Santaland in its downtown location. With the move to a larger, well-traveled location, the Chamber anticipates up to 12,000 people visiting Santaland in 2024.

Santaland will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Nov. 29 through Dec. 21, 2024.

There will be a grand opening with a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29.

Sponsorship opportunities are available to individuals and businesses. The Chamber also is seeking passionate community members to join the Santaland Committee. If you love the holiday season and want to be part of bringing joy to families in our community, they would love to have you on board! Committee members will help with planning, organizing, and executing this magical event. Your input and creativity will be invaluable as we make this the best Santaland yet.
