Smoke, carbon monoxide detectors to be installed in some Watertown homes

Watertown Fire Rescue, The Red Cross of South Dakota, and other volunteers will participate in the annual event on Saturday.

Volunteers will be installing free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in parts of Watertown on Saturday.

Staff members from Watertown Fire Rescue and volunteers will do their annual smoke detector installation event this Saturday, October 5.

The event is held in partnership with the American Red Cross of South Dakota. It provides and installs free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in homes of Watertown residents.

This year, detectors will be installed in an area from First Avenue SW to Eighth Avenue SW between Second Street SW and South Maple Street. Volunteers will go door to door in that area beginning at about 9 a.m. to ensure that everyone has a working smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector for their safety.

The Red Cross donates the detectors for the annual installation event.

If you are not in this year’s coverage area and are interested in a smoke detector, call Watertown Fire Rescue at 605-882-5030.
