According to the National Weather Service Field Office in Aberdeen, the Prairie Coteau has its first chance of receiving snow next week.
The NWS is predicting that a storm system next week could bring rain to the area on Monday and may transition to all snow by midweek. With this being several days out in time, confidence remains low on the exact track, timing, and strength of storm which leads to lower confidence on exact precipitation type and amounts over the forecast area, but the NWS has laid out two possible storm scenarios for this event.
Given that the storm is a possibility, now is the time to winterize your car, garage your motorcycle and boats, and prepare your home for the season by pulling shovels out of storage and stocking up on sand and snowmelt.
Low- and limited-income households may qualify for weatherization and heating assistance from the state. Help may be in the form of materials to prevent heat loss such as insulation, weatherstripping, or caulking, or financially with funds to pay your gas or electric bills. Income limits apply.
