Snyder, Wadsworth crowned at 85th Legend of the Arrows

Himmerich named Champion of Arrows

At the 85th Legend of the Arrows, on Monday, Sept. 9, Marli Wadsworth was named Guardian of the Gold and Devon Snyder was named Protector of the Purple. Wadsworth and Snyder were voted the Homecoming Royalty by all the students of Watertown High School. Treyton Himmerich was selected by his football teammates as the Champion of the Arrows. Other royalty candidates include Noah Carlson, Max Dylla, David Lechner, Grace Corey, Isabella Horning, and Elizabeth Rieffenberger. Jayden Lambert and Spencer Wientjes were Champion of Arrows candidates.

The Legend of the Arrows tells the tail of the Purple Council and the Gold Council, who fought for control of Lake Kampeska, before joining together as the Purple and Gold Arrows. First performed in 1939, Legend was originally written by the late Florence Bruhn, an English teacher at Watertown High School. For the last several years, the Legend has been under the direction of Shanon Manley, also a WHS English teacher.

The Legend marks the start of Arrow Days for both the high school and the community. Following the performance, many Watertown seniors lined up their Homecoming Vans and toured the community. On Thursday, Sept. 19, the Powder Puff football game between the Junior and Senior Girls will be played at the Watertown Stadium, followed by the burning of the “W”. Friday sees a 11am pep rally at the Civic Arena. Starting at the high school at 2pm, the Arrow Day Parade winds through downtown Watertown and ends near 200 Maple Place. Arrow Football hosts the Mitchell Kernels at 7pm; as the on-campus football field nears completion, this will be the last Homecoming at the Watertown Stadium.
