Seasonal street construction ends Oct. 28

Heads up contractors: the Watertown Street Division has issued a directive for all contractors to cease digging in City roadways starting Oct. 28, 2024, through May 1, 2025, due to the seasonal closure of the asphalt hot mix plant.

During this period, digging will only be permitted in emergencies—such as water service or main breaks—or for projects that have received prior approval from city officials. Contractors who choose to proceed with digging after the deadline will be responsible for daily maintenance of any trenches until permanent repairs can be made in the spring.

To ensure safety and compliance, the Street Superintendent Rob Beynon may require contractors to patch trenches with concrete, creating a temporary hard surface until more permanent repairs can be conducted in the next construction season.

Contractors are reminded that any digging in City roadways requires a permit from the Watertown Engineering Division. Additionally, they must notify the Watertown Street Division of their plans.

For permit inquiries, contact the Engineering Division at (605) 882-6202.
