Terry Blake, age 80, originally of Hendricks, MN passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the Sioux Falls Veterans Hospital. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial with military honors will be at the Calvary Cemetery, east of Hendricks. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Hendricks, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.
Terry Allen Blake was born on January 20, 1944 to Wilbert and Lena (Mickelsen) Blake in Marshall, MN. He was raised on a farm near Hendricks, MN and attended school there, graduating in 1962. From 1964 to 1966 he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sgt (T) E-5.
Following graduation he began working in a variety of jobs, jobs that would allow him to work independently. Eventually he settled on the trucking industry. During his career in trucking he enjoyed traveling the country. Upon his retirement he chose to live in several different communities in the South Dakota Black Hills, his favorite area of the country.
Terry always took particular interest in the lives of his nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
He had a great concern and compassion for people who were down trodden or experienced injustice.
He enjoyed telling stories, following sports and playing cards. He also liked to be part of conversations where he could “stir the pot a little bit to keep things interesting”.
Survivors include his sisters: Diane (Hale) Hedlund of Mesa, AZ and Bev (Ron) Gillund of Hendricks, MN and one brother, Duane (Pam) Blake of Tyler, MN; his nieces Erin Blake of Toronto, ON, Anne (Nathan) Stensland of Sioux Falls, SD and Sarah (Kellen Runge) Gillund of Minneapolis, MN and his nephews, Adam (Heather) Gillund of Hendricks, MN and Peter (Elisabeth) Blake of Fort Collins, CO plus his grandnieces and nephews: Isabelle, Nora, Ethan, Blake and Bjorn.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an older brother, William “Bill” Blake and one nephew, Andrew Gillund.
