
The driver of this vehicle was uninjured in the accident.
Three people were injured in a two-car accident Friday, January 17, at the intersection of East U.S. Highway 212 and Sixth Street SE.
Watertown Police Department were called to the scene at approximately 8:35 p.m. A 2012 blue Dodge Challenger was traveling west on Highway 212 when a 2021 maroon Dodge Challenger entered the roadway from Sixth Street SE. The maroon Challenger was southbound attempting to make a left (east) turn onto the highway and was struck on the driver’s side by the blue Challenger.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene. Both are considered total losses The driver of the maroon Challenger was temporarily pinned in the driver’s seat. Watertown Fire Rescue used the Jaws of Life to remove the driver’s side door and get the driver out. The driver was taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A female passenger and a male passenger from the maroon Challenger were also taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male passenger was in the backseat and did not have his seatbelt on. The driver of the blue Challenger was uninjured.
The roadway was shut down for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
The Watertown Police Department was assisted by the Codington County Sheriff’s Officer, Watertown Fire Rescue, and Active Towing.
