Twenty-three tractors lined up for a drive from Waverly to South Shore and back Sunday afternoon to benefit the Codington County Cares Cancer Foundation.
The fifth-annual Tractor Drive For a Cure started and ended at the Waverly Community Center. After driving the 20 miles to South Shore, the drivers and other participants stopped for refreshments at the South Shore Community Center. When they returned to Waverly, a supper of pulled pork, baked beans and desserts was waiting.

Drive organizer Grant Loehrer of Kranzburg told the Watertown Current that he was still adding up the proceeds. In the previous four years, the Tractor Drive For a Cure has raised more than $10,000 for Codington County Cares.
Each tractor driver paid $30 to participate in the event. All of that money, plus other donations, go to Codington County Cares.
Next year’s Tractor Drive For a Cure will be a little different, according to Loehrer. The drive will begin in Kranzburg and go through Goodwin and Bemis. It will be held on Sunday Sept. 14, 2025.
