Watertown Art Scene: Murder Mystery at the Museum coming soon

There are plenty of exciting events happening in town!


A cast of local actors makes sure the Murder Mystery at the Museum is a fun event for the entire family.

Isn’t it fun to have something to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead? Watertown’s arts scene has so much to offer! With the community’s input, The Current will provide a weekly summary of arts activities and cultural events.

Ready for a little “who-done-it?” Be sure to highlight Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26 on your calendar as the Codington County Heritage Museum (27 First Ave. SE) presents “Murder Mystery at the Museum.” This family-friendly activity runs between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with a new group of 10 admitted to the museum every 10 minutes. There’s no cost to attend, but donations are appreciated.

Town Players’ 2024-25 season pass includes three intriguing productions – “The Holiday Challenge Christmas Movie Wonderthon” on Nov. 20-24, “This Murder Was Staged” on Feb. 19-23 and “The Cottage” on April 30 to May 4. The $45 season pass can be purchased at www.townplayers.net or by stopping by the Town Players box office at 5 S. Broadway.

“Rhapsody & the Blues” will take the D.D. Miller stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, for the next Watertown Concert Series performance. The 13-piece big band will feature Jens Lindemann on trumpet, plus talented musicians on piano, drums, bass, trumpets, trombones and saxophones. Season tickets ($50 for adults; $20 for students) will be available for purchase in the lobby just ahead of the show, or by calling 605-868-3224. Four additional concerts will round out the series season: “Boyd Meets Girl” on Nov. 19; “Sail On” on April 11; “Jared Freiburg & The Vagabonds” on May 3 and “Sing Us a Song…You’re the Piano Man” on May 11. Registration is open for ‘Write Now’ writing workshops at the Watertown Regional Library (160 6th St. NE.)  Beginning with “Brainstorm and Prompts” on Nov. 5, workshops will be held each Tuesday in November at 6 p.m. Each week’s topic will build on what was covered the week before — and the final week will include a peer review. Workshops are designed for participants ages 13 and older. How about shaking up a little creativity with Northern Prairie Arts’ first class of the fall, Mixology 101? Participants will gather from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Harry’s Hideway (16 W. Kemp Ave.) to learn the fine art of mixing classic cocktails. Cost is $49 per person. Class is limited to individuals 21+ years of age. “Ken & Drew of Sister Hazel” will perform at the Goss Opera House on Nov. 16.

The Goss Opera House (100 E. Kemp Ave.) in downtown Watertown has several outstanding concerts coming up. Each performance begins at 7 p.m. in the historic Reliabank Theater:

“Ken & Drew of Sister Hazel” on Nov. 16; “Holiday Jam with The Hegg Brothers” on Dec. 14;

“Dancing with the Celts” on March 7; “Tusk” on March 28 and “South Dakota Symphony Orchestra” on April 11. Tickets may be purchased at Maude’s Mercantile (lower level at The Goss) or online at www.thegossoperahouse.com.

The String Showdown, featuring two fun-loving, dueling string musicians, will entertain at this year’s Ladies Night Out, Nov. 11, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer (2001 2nd St. NW). The evening, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will also include hand-crafted specialty desserts and coffee. Tickets are $15 each and available for purchase at the church office.
