WHS’s 100th Homecoming Parade

Celebrating their 100th anniversary of Watertown High School’s homecoming, the high school—along with other other community groups—put on a parade to celebrate the event. 2024’s homecoming is also special because it is the last year the event will be held in the New Deal-Era Watertown Stadium. The next homecoming will be held at the new stadium north of the high school. The current stadium, with a seating capacity of 5,000, was built by the Works Progress Administration, and completed in 1940. This facility replaced Fletcher Field at the corner of 14th Street and Kemp Avenue. A new locker room facility and concession building was built in 2006.

Reflecting on his memories, 2007 Chief of the Arrows and WHS Hall of Famer Josh Hanson told the Current, “I just think the biggest thing that is important is the community coming together to support the school; Watertown’s support is unmatched for athletics and that for homecoming you don’t get this excitement in other communities. And that for kids that are experiencing it, they remember this, and when they get to high school, they’ll want to replicate that feeling as well.”
